Since graduating with a PGC in Early Education in 2021, I have continued to value academic research and writing as tools to develop my practice. I have delivered guest lectures for students in Childhood Studies and Education at The University of Chichester, as well as working there as an Associate Lecturer. In this role I have written and delivered a module on The Arts in Education and Society, as well as providing supervision and tutoring. I have been co-writing with Debra Laxton (Senior Lecturer and Early Years Lead) on co and self-regulation in toddlers, and leadership in Early Years settings. Our work has since been published in Early Years Educator magazine, and we were invited to presented it at the Early Education Annual National Conference 2022. We then presented at the University of Chichester Childhood Voices conference 2022, where I also presented my own work on visual pedagogies and the role of the Atelierista in Early Education.
As an Atelierista/Early Years Teacher, I am occupied with examining the pedagogical value of artists in nursery schools, and public cultural spaces. I am interested in creating toolkits and training to support artists and early years settings in working together effectively. I have written and delivered training on materiality in early education, and in making art with and for children under five. I believe that respectful pedagogies and rich cultural experiences should be accessible to all children and have benefits far beyond the Expressive Arts and Design in the Early Years Foundation Stage.
